Biodiversity with Room Rima and Wha

We continued to explore our nghere today and the idea of biodiversity - all life working together in food webs and eco systems.

On our nature walk we heard a grey warbler singing and saw how the tui's beak is especially evolved to fit into the kowhai flowers.  We talked about some of the species that live with our puriri tree including weta, bees, kereru and puriri moths.

Can you see the photo of the beautiful turkey tail fungus Room Wha found?

Our taonga endemic plants and animals all fit together.  Sadly we found an introduced pest plant - climbing asparagus, twisting up our trees. We spend time pulling it out.

Next we completed an online food web and researched taonga species. Lastly we played a native bush card game.

Next time we're looking forward to planting native trees and eating kai from the garden.
