Hot compost on a cold morning

Today Room Ono worked with Tim & Sophie from the Carbon Cycle Company. We turned and watered our hot compost to give it oxygen and left it to mature. The tamariki took turns using the dragfork and watering can.

We had lots of questions for Tim and Sophie about being sustainable with our waste.  We saw steam rising, lots invertebrates and even some macro hyphae.

Using the drag fork.

Hyphae - Fungi threads

Even on a 12 degree morning our compost was 30 degrees. Can you see the steam?

Thanks to everyone who has been feeding our compost with food waste. In three months time we'll have compost to put on our Mara Kai (Edible Gardens).
