Suzy Cato reads The Hauraki Broo

As part of our Whale Tales project and moana enquiry, Year Rua & Toru were lucky enough to win an online celebrity storytime with Suzy Cato today. She shared "The Hauraki Broo" by N S Robinson.

The story tells of Broo, a young Bryde's Whale is searching for food but it's getting harder and harder to find. A tale that addresses the challenges faced by marine life in the Hauraki Gulf, reminding us of the importance of the conservation of our whole marine environment.

Thank you to Suzy and WWF for this exciting experience.

Learning about Leopard Seals with WWF

Kauri Hub learnt about leopard seals today with the Whale Tales and WWF expert; Christa.

We listened, questioned and took notes.

Sam asked Christa if leopard seals stop off at sub Antartic Islands. Christa said that was a great question as scientists are now thinking leopard seals may be giving birth on these islands, but research is needed. There still so much to learn about these creatures and you can help ...

Did you know Auckland has its own leopard seal called Owha?

Find out more and log sightings of leopard seals at https://www.leopardseals.org/

Litter Free Lunches Helping Our Moana

Well done to these Room Rua tamariki for packing litter free lunches.

Our litter survey today still found lunchbox packets & wraps are escaping into the playground and down outside drains.

Please help us stop ocean litter and the harm it does to sea creatures by packing a litterfree lunch.
