Share & Shine on What Now

Sunnyhills School is set to share & shine on TVNZ's What Now this weekend. Be watching live on Sunday around 8:44am to see our school wide moana inquiry and mini Whale Tale show cased.

Or catch up OnDemand: https://www.tvnz.co.nz/shows/what-now

Autumn Harvest Begins

A new crop of beans may still coming in, but it's already time to harvest feijoas, cabbages, apples, quince and super sour sorrel. Yum!

Litterfree Yoghurt

Super well done Izzy for finding a litterfree (& spill proof) way to enjoy yoghurt at school. Thank you for helping Sunnyhills School be more sustainable.

Did you know the single serve yoghurt pots and sucky pouches aren't actually recyclable in NZ even though some have the recycle stamp on them? Using homemade yoghurt or decanting from a big container are way more sustainable options.

Learning about Leopard Seals with WWF

Kauri Hub learnt about leopard seals today with the Whale Tales and WWF expert; Christa.

We listened, questioned and took notes.

Sam asked Christa if leopard seals stop off at sub Antartic Islands. Christa said that was a great question as scientists are now thinking leopard seals may be giving birth on these islands, but research is needed. There still so much to learn about these creatures and you can help ...

Did you know Auckland has its own leopard seal called Owha?

Find out more and log sightings of leopard seals at https://www.leopardseals.org/

Spuds with Room 15

Today Room 15 learnt about parts of the plant and the difference between fruits and vegetables.

We had fun digging up potatoes and rating them with salt and butter.

Checking on our Weta Buddies

In Room 18 Evie found a weta and bought it to school. We decided to learn more about weta. We read a book, drew a weta & watched videos.

Lastly we went and checked on the weta hotel that was donated three years ago. It was empty, but Mrs Daniel did find a baby weta in a cabbage tree.

Have you found any weta lately? Wetas love dark bushy places.

Litter Free Lunches Helping Our Moana

Well done to these Room Rua tamariki for packing litter free lunches.

Our litter survey today still found lunchbox packets & wraps are escaping into the playground and down outside drains.

Please help us stop ocean litter and the harm it does to sea creatures by packing a litterfree lunch.
